About us

  The Department of Applied Economics was founded in 1993. Currently the department has a Ph.D program of first-class disciplines in applied economics and a Ph.D program of interdiscipline in energy and climate economics. Besides the department owns in total 10 master programs of second-class disciplines. At the moment the research directions of this department include agriculture and development economics, energy and climate economics, industrial economics, and international trade and finance. The faculty of the department includes 14 full-time faculty members headed by Professor Hu Rui-fa, the winner of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. The faculty has three professors, five associate professor and four assistant professors. All the faculty members own Ph.D degrees and have overseas learning or/and working experiences. Five faculty members are PH.D supervisors, and all faculty members are master supervisors. Currently in the department there are 8 Ph.D candidates, 70 graduate students majoring in applied economics as well as MBA, MPA, and Master of Engineering; Each year the department would enroll 5-7 new Ph.D candidates and 20-30 graduate students.

  Currently, the faculty members have undertaken nearly 30 courses for undergraduate students, graduate students and Ph.D candidates, including Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, International Trade, International Finance, International Trade in Services, Principle of Management, Industrial Economics, Regional Economics, Energy Economics, Development Economics, International Investment, Management System Engineering, Statistics for Management Science, Project Management, Frontier Monographic of Applied Economics, Advanced Microeconomics, and Frontier Monographic of Development Economics. The faculty members have compiled or jointly complied more than 20 textbook and academic works, including Energy Economics, China’s Public Finance Knowledge Reader, International Finance, Macroeconomics, The Theory and Policy of international Trade, Innovation Management, China’s Marketization Process, Decision System for Financial Management, Evolvement of Late-developing Advantage Theory: A research on the Sustainable Catch-up of China’s Economy, and A Research on the Sustainable Development of China’s Foreign Trade. Most of these works have become the main textbooks or reference books in Beijing Institute of Technology and many other universities in China.

  In recent years, the faculty members have undertaken dozens of various research projects. At present more than 30 projects are in process, including international cooperative projects, projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China and National Social Science Foundation, National Science and Technology Major Projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, National key Technology Research and Development Programs of the Ministry Science and Technology of China as well as the projects supported or sponsored by the ministry of education, the ministry of industry and information and Beijing municipal government. In the past three years, the total research funds examined and approved to our department have exceeded 10 million yuan. Sufficient research funds ensure and promote the quality and quantity of researches. So far the faculty members have already published over 400 papers in some international famous academic journals such as Science, Nature Biotechnology, Journal of Development Economics, Economic Development and Cultural Change, Energy Economics, Energy Policy, Research Policy, Applied Energy, and Truth Seeking. Among these papers, more than 100 are published in SCI/SSCI-indexed journals, over 20 in EI journals and over 100 in CSSCI journals. The articles written by Prof. Hu Rui-fa and his collaborator have been cited more than 460 times by other SCI papers.
